Internet Use Guidelines

All users of electronic information resources such as the Internet are expected to use these resources in a responsible manner, consistent with their educational and informational purposes.  All users must agree to follow the rules and regulations set forth in the Internet Use Policy and Guidelines. The library reserves the right to end a patron’s use of Internet access if the patron breaks any of these rules.  By using Internet access provided at Burlington Public Library, you agree to the following guidelines:

  1. Patrons accept the responsibility to verify information.Parents accept the responsibility to monitor and supervise their children’s access.
  2. To receive wireless Internet access through the Burlington Public Library, a patron must provide his or her valid drivers license, state ID card, or library card. Children under 18 must have a parent come to the library and sign permission cards.  Internet access is nontransferable.  Patrons allowing others to use their passwords to gain Internet access will have their access through Burlington Public Library terminated.
  3. Patrons should install personal firewalls and virus protection on their equipment before accessing the Internet. The Burlington Public Library is not responsible for damage to patron equipment that results from accessing the Internet.
  4. The library does not allow use of its Internet access to perform illegal activities; to reach obscene or objectionable material; or to access or participate in chat rooms or interactive messaging (like Yahoo, MSN or AOL instant messaging.)
