Project Overview
Burlington Public Library is growing! Beginning in October 2026, the library will undergo a renovation and expansion. This will add 5,500 square feet of meeting spaces and study rooms, an entrance into Wehmhoff Square Park, expanded accessibility features, and much-needed updates to building systems. The renovated space will open to the public in Fall 2027.
During the renovation, the library is moving to the first floor of City Hall. All of our collections will be onsite, but not all will be accessible to the public. (However, items will be available to be reserved from our library. Library programs will be hosted at a variety of locations throughout downtown and the surrounding community.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Where did you move to?
The temporary library location is at 300 N. Pine St., on the first floor of City Hall, right across from the Library building. The library was located in this space from 1925-1964. - When did you open in the new space?
We opened on October 1, 2026, and will be in this space for about a year. - What are your hours in the temporary space?
The library hours are the same. Monday-Thursday, 9-8; Friday, 9-6; Saturday, 9-4; Sunday, 12-4. - Are your phone number and email address the same?
Yes. 262-342-1130 or ask@burlingtonlibrary.org - Did Shelldon move to the temporary library?
Yes! He loves his new spot and can’t wait for all of his friends to come visit him. - That space is a lot smaller. Where are you fitting everything?
We have about 20% of the collection on the main floor accessible to the public. This includes all of the new books, holds, library of things, periodicals, games, and puzzles. We also have most of the children’s and teen collections on the main floor. For adults, we have a selection of high-demand titles on the main floor, including fiction, non-fiction, DVD, and audiobooks. The rest of the collection is onsite in the basement, which is accessible to staff. - Are your services still the same?
Mostly yes. We have computers, printing, scanning, copying, faxing, notary, reference, and many more. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or email. If you need City Hall services but can’t make it up the stairs, please feel free to come to the library and talk to the staff. We can call City Hall personnel to come assist you. Here’s some more info from City Hall: https://www.burlington-wi.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/581 - What’s the best way to get items that are in storage?
The best method is to place Holds using the catalog or by calling the library. That’ll give us time to pull the item and have it ready for you to pick up. You can also come to the library and ask us to pull the books for you. - Where do I return books?
Book drops are still available outside the Jefferson St. location. There is also a bookdrop inside the Pine St. vestibule. - Where do I park?
Once the Pine Street project is complete, there will be ample street parking on Pine. For now, the best spots are in front of the police station, in the surface lot next to the parking deck, in the parking deck, or in any other on-street spots you can find. - Are you still doing programs?
Yes! We have received tremendous support from area businesses. Please check the program calendar and register for programs so we can coordinate with our community partners.
